Structured training plan
by Kyrian 1 Year, 3 Months ago
We started doing run throughs for our structured training for new fighters developed by Sir Fox. We hope to actually get the program going towards the end of the month. Each session is about 30-45 minutes and all the trainees will have the same equipment (medium-length sword and round shield). Once a session is completed during a weekly practice, the trainee is more than welcome to join the field battles or to ask someone questions about a particular _style_. The training sessions are voluntary and a person can stop attending whenever they choose.

This is the basic outline:
Session I: Orientation, Basics Part I--Attacks
Session II: Basics Part II--Defense
Session III: Basics Part III--Footwork
Session IV: Sword for defense, shield for attack
Session V: Small-unit tactics
Session VI: Melee

If anyone would be interested in the training materials we're using, please let me know. I'll be happy to post them.

I would love to see them if you would post. Though, we have one battlepractice a week so I need to practice, we also have a lot of new people who could really benefit.

Award ceremony (We have scrolls of completion we can print out) We're still hashing this part out but we figure it'd be cool if we give the person the scroll as well as a realm sash. Usually by that time, a person has also chosen a name so it could be a recognition ceremony also ("Welcome to Wolfpack! Wolfpack, we present...").

This is still a work in progress so if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, we'd really like to hear them.

Some of the other training materials we currently have are a condensed rule _script_, a sign-in sheet for tracking a person's progress, as well as a outline overview sheet documenting the primary topics for all of the sessions.

That is so great! I love it all. it is more structured steps and manners that realms should have. Rather than just a bunch of people hitting each other. Thanks for sharing this

Excellent! I think field awareness should be one of the first lessons, but this training guide is beyond awesome!

Looks to be extremely useful...

I'm sure, as with all things, when you start using it you'll see some flow issues, or retention, or some things work better than others in different sessions. I think the only way to really flush that stuff out is to do it.

Good luck, and good work.

Love IT! I just dont see you getting your average 16 year old to sit there for 45 mins while you teach him. Otherwise its brilliant. Like, put a plasma TV on your shiled so they can watch TV while they're fighting:lol:

Other than the first session, it's why we made it a point to have drills for reinforcing what we're teaching. Just about all of the drills we've come up with involve pairing up and then alternating shots, blocks, etc., back and forth. From what we've seen, it's a good way to keep people's attention.
