Speacial events at Chaos Wars XI:

Chili Cookoff

That's right folks Xooyan is bringing you another fabulous opportunity to eat CHILI, so get your jalapenos ready for the 4th Annual Chaos Wars Chili Cookoff! Again, there is no theme. Just make the best damn chili you can and rock our socks off. It was a close race last year, actually requiring a Sudden Death Taste-off, so make sure you are perfecting your recipes to tantalize those judges' taste buds.

Rules:
1. Your chili batch must be large enough to feed 8-10 people.
2. Your chili must be home made (not from a can) at the campsite.
3. Cooking may begin 24 hours in advance of the tasting, but not before.
4. Your chili must be presented on time for the judging (6pm).
5. Chili must be offered to the judges unadulterated for tasting (no condiments).
6. Each cook, must be able to tell the judges why their chili should win (in other words why is your chili good, did you have inspiration, is it an old family recipe, does your chili have pizzaz?)

Chili will be tasted and scored by a 5 judge panel on a scale of 1-10. Judges will be asked to rank the chili based on 3 things
1. Flavor (does it taste good, and is it chili - not just bean soup)
2. Looks (does it look appetizing? Do you WANT to eat this chili?)
3. The cook's presentation (did the cook make you want to vote for his/her chili and more importantly does the cook make you HUNGRY?)

I am looking for 5-7 chili tasting judges this year. Judges must be able to provide their own spoon, bowl and bowl-washing bitch (person to rinse their bowl between tastings). This year's judge choices, like last year, will be based entirely on my personal bias, so let the sucking up begin.

If you plan to enter, you can let me know in this thread or when you arrive at the event. This year's chili spoon prize will be the bigbad folks, and Orion has agreed to do some wood burning on it for me this year.

Chili remaining from the tastings will be served to the camp en masse, so I hope everyone is prepared to eat Chili!

3rd Annual Poker Tournament

Kicking off Sin Nite once again is the 3rd annual Chaos Wars Poker Tournament. Tentatively the time for cards in the air is 5:30pm Wedndesday night. You know the game - No Limit Texas Holdem. The rules will be the same as last year. The buy-in is $6, five of which goes to the prize pool and the extra buck to the event. Players will start with $1500 in chips. Blinds will be 10/20 to start and level up every 20 minutes for the first two levels and every 15 minutes for the remaining levels of play. Please see us to sign up.

Now, I know you big shots don't want Orion and I walking away with all the cash again this year (though, it made a big dent in the Gelfen Breakfast bill. ), so get your butts to the table and pony up to put us in our places!

Bring home the coveted Chaos Banner!

This year, the Chaos Wars banner will be given away based on participation in evening events!
By popular request, there will be no fighting to determine banner points! Every night, there will be different events where points will be awarded to winning groups or individuals. Points will be tallied at the end of the event and the banner will be awarded to the winning team at feast on Saturday night.

When you register at troll, you MUST declare who you are representing in banner events. Realms AND units may compete for the banner, but a person may only represent one group. BANNER POINTS ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE. Each realm/unit also must declare a "leader" just so that I can have someone to contact about nightly events.

The evening schedule is as follows:

MONDAY: Early Arrivals: Potluck and Classes
This will be an early evening event, starting at approximately 6:00 PM. This is the only event which is not for a pre-determined amount of points! Each realm/unit is encouraged to bring a dish of their own making to the event to share with everyone, and all of their members. Realms/units will be given points for bringing food, and bonus points for the more members they bring. This event favors the people who arrive on Monday, and I know that--it's done on purpose.
Points will also be given for people who are willing to teach a 20 minute class to interested people. These classes must be related to swordfighting, and MUST teach something that most people in the sport probably don't know how to do.
EXAMPLE: I am going to be teaching a class on embossing copper and brass for armor. Someone has also expressed an interest in teaching a class on appliqué projects for garb.
All ideas for classes MUST be submitted to me before July 31st via private message on the message board. Ideas such as "how to fight with a round shield" are inane and will NOT be considered.

TUESDAY: Goblin Night & the Bardic Games
This night is the opposite of Sin Night, and will be somewhat family-oriented. The early evening will be Goblin night, and is designed for all the small children and parents who attend Chaos Wars. The participating kids are going to dress up in Goblin garb and go from camp to camp looking for fun. The camps that wish to participate will have the opportunity to invent goblin-type games and possibly give out goblin-type gifts to the kids to keep them entertained. Everything has to be appropriate for kids. At the end of the night, the goblins will vote on which camp they liked the best. In the event of multi-unit/realm camp winning, the points will be divided equally between the involved groups.

After the Goblin troupe finishes their rounds, the bardic games will begin at the main fire.
To participate, each group MUST select "Heckler" to sit on the panel of judges.
The bardic games will be two hours long, and have four events:

Best Swordfighting Stories (Not more than 5 minutes long)
Best Jokes (Not more than 2 minutes Long, and be relatively clean)
A General Talent Exhibition
Group Music, Dancing, and Fire/other Performances.

The first 3 events will be set up so each group has the OPPORTUNITY to participate an equal number of times. Winners will be decided by the audience. The hecklers are free to heckle any acts that suck, and will help to keep the night moving quickly. At the end of the 3rd event, the best heckler will also be chosen by the audience.
The 4th event is open to everyone! Bring your drums, any musical instruments, your point, and especially your dancers! It will be one long performance, with the winners being the most exceptional contributors (with favor given to good dancers).
Between the events, for bonus points, we will be holding Chaos Wars Trivia for bonus points! So brush up on your CW history!

WEDNESDAY: Sin Night--Last Man Standing Drunken Journey
This is the ONLY event that includes the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Each realm/unit chooses ONE Champion Drinker to represent them for this event. If a realm or unit can NOT find ONE SINGLE DRINKER and has to have a non-drinker participate, I will come up with an alternative, but it will be awful and probably give them diabetes.
As soon as the sun goes down, I will assemble the group of drinkers, give them each a beer, and they will follow me around all night, from camp to camp, drinking as much as we can. Each participant will be given a shot glass of equal size, and they must take ALL of their drinks from it to ensure that they are all drinking an equal amount. There will be mandatory drinks several times an hour in addition to anything we can scrounge from the surrounding camps. The last man able to wander around drunk with me will be the victor, with 2nd and 3rd place consolation prizes. THIS EVENT WILL GO ON AS LONG AS IT HAS TO, possibly long into Thursday afternoon.

THURSDAY: Assassin's Tourney
This event is separate from any "official" assassin's tourney that Senzo or anyone else might run during the week. This event is Thursday night ONLY. Participants must sign up for this event at troll, and will receive more information on Thursday afternoon.

FRIDAY: Auction and Gladiator Pit
There will be an auction for Gladitors to participate in a gladiator pit the same night, with gladiators going to the highest bidders. There will be No slave auction.
For the gladiator pit, realms/units may select up to three fighters to represent them in combat. For each fighter a realm/unit selects for the pit, they must ALSO put a fighter on the auction block. Realms/units may bid on their own fighters that are up for auction.
The fights in the pit will be random. Each realm/unit will be given a fake currency to bet on fights. The group "leader" will be in charge of placing bets. After the fighters are selected, bets will be placed. After all bets are in, the "wheel of weapons" will be spun to determine what each fighter will use in combat.
The audience will also be given a few "rocks" during the pit, so that they have the opportunity to turn the tide of battle if they have a good enough aim.
The winner will be the group that accumulates the most currency by the end of the night.

The banner will be awarded at feast to the team that accumulated the most points throughout the week, along with a few consolation prizes.
Start planning, and there will be more information to come!
